Wonderful Counselor

Intro:

In Isaiah, Immanuel is described by several names/descriptions/titles. This week, we look at Wonderful Counselor. What does this name mean? What is a counselor’s purpose? Upon hearing counsel, one must evaluate. There will be a choice to make. The Bible says one must choose. To not choose, according to the Bible, is to choose.

3. What are some differences between the bad influence and the good teachings/admonishments in I Corinthians 15:32-34?

4. People initially were drawn to Jesus and followed Him. However, in Luke 14:26-33, what was the name given to those who had evaluated, understood what they would be up against, and would stay with Jesus for the rest of their lives?

8. What three-word-phrase do we not want to include in our prayers to God? (Mark 9:23)

Discussion:

1. What is it about Jesus that separates Him from other “counselors?”

2. What do you think Paul was trying to say with, “…you were to have countless tutors in Christ, yet…not many fathers…in Christ?” (Read I Corinthians 4:9-15)

3. Later, Paul says, “…I became your father through the Gospel…be imitators of me.” How is this like Jesus’ leadership style, mentioned last week?
