Call in 1-(206)279-9016 7:30pm Pacific time Bible study with Brother John Consequences of David – Part 4 II Samuel 12:11,12 call in 206

Intro: God’s plan for man included a helper, for it was not good for man to be alone. (Gen. 2:18)
This relationship would be incredible enough to cause a man to leave his father and mother
(Gen 2:24)…cleave to his wife…and the two would become on flesh. With the fall (Gen. 3),
other aspects/consequences(?) were added (pain at childbirth, desire for husband, husband
ruling over wife, etc.). Later, there were consequences/penalties…some were fatal to the
offender (Gen. 12:17, Gen. 20:3). We will look at consequence part 4, including events leading
up to it, and what we can learn, ourselves.
Read II Sam. 15:1-16 and II Sam. chapter 16 verses 15, 20-23)

  1. What did Absalom, one of David’s sons, do to draw people to him? (15:2-6)
  2. What was Absalom’s deception in verses 7-10?
  3. Momentum was building for Absalom when who joined forces with him? (v.12)
  4. Even though David was still king, why did he flee from Jerusalem? (v.14)
  5. Who was left behind and why? (v.16)
  6. Whose idea was it for Absalom to publicly violate David’s concubines? (16:21)
  7. Why was Ahithophel so trusted? (16:23)
  8. Before consequence part 4 actually took place, what two things did David do in
    15:31 and 15:32-34?

Discussion

  1. God did not stop Abraham from having descendent producing relations with
Haggar, at Sarah’s request. (Haggar was the maid of Abraham’s wife Sarah). How
could this help make sense of II Sam 15:16 using the word “concubines?”
  2. God’s plan was to have Jesus become human, in order to save people from their
sins. This decision was made before the earth was made (Eph. 1:4). For this to be
accomplished, there were going to be imperfect people involved, all along the way.
Name of few of these people, their role, and why they were imperfect.
  3. How did both Absalom and Ahithophel fit into the category of being imperfect,
yet God used them to accomplish His will, fulfilling the promised consequence
    towards David?
